Michael Byers
Biography
- A professor of political science at the University of British Columbia, an acclaimed author, human rights advocate, and expert in international law
- Holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, a law degree and Bachelor of Civil Law degree from McGill University, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge
- Was a professor of law at Duke University between 1999 and 2004 and a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford between 1996 and 1999
- Has published six books, dozens of academic papers and more than 100 op-ed articles in international newspapers, the Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star and Ottawa Citizen
- Board member of the Canadian Council on International Law, the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association, the Rideau Institute on International Affairs, the Vancouver Institute, and the Group of 78
- Member of Pugwash Canada
- Research Associate of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (B.C. office)
- Member of the legal team representing Amnesty International in the Pinochet case.
